Saga by Gabriela Rodriguez Lopez
(Disregard the fact that I had no other models that were available at the time I needed the images)
Many young adolescents nowadays find themselves oblivious to the many sexualities and gender identities that are available. They believe that they may be alone, that the feelings that they are keeping inside have never been felt by anyone else. As of 2014, over 30 new sexualities and gender identities have gradually emerged gathering the support and acceptance of those in the former LGBTQ+ community. Seeing how many, many genders and sexualities have been coming into the light, there is a petition to rename the LGBTQ+ community the SAGA community; SAGA standing for Sexualitiy and Gender Acceptance which branches out into every and all sexualities and gender identities. Even so, many are unaware of the fact that there is a community for those who only want romantic relationships, those who only want relationships with males or females, and so on. Because of the wide diversity of sexualities, there is the option to mix-and-match preferences, if you mix-and-match your socks you’d understand. For example, if someone says they are homoromantic heterosexual, then it means they seek romantic relationships with the same sex but sexual relationships with the opposite sex. Apart from sexualities, new gender identities have also appeared in the community. Those who are gender fluid for example, do not feel as if they fit on one end of the gender spectrum, they might feel more masculine one day, more feminine the next, both, or not at all; androgynous individuals have physical aspects of both main genders, intersex people are born with both main gender genitalia and may decide which gender they wish to be addressed as, non-binary means they do not identify as male or female, and countless more.
Despite this, many young adolescents feel as if they are alone when in fact they aren’t. Despite this, people everywhere feel as if they have to hide who they are because of moral issues, family, political issues, and so on. If you are questioning yourself, that’s okay; there is a community of hundreds and hundreds of friends waiting for you, waiting to help you. Disregard when others say “it’s just a phase” because they are right; it’s just a phase. But do know this, the moon is often seen in stages, in phases, showing more and more of itself everyday, but just because it shows more of itself today, does not mean it lied about being the moon yesterday.

Dia De Los Muertos by Karla Lopez
As of today, we still celebrate the beautiful day of Dia de Los Muertos. It is a cultural event celebrated by hispanics who show love to those who have passed away. It is celebrated on November 1st and ends on the 2nd. It’s more of a night event. People bring food such as sweet bread, candy, and water or other type of liquids. Most people bring the favorite food that their loved ones liked. The food is placed by their grave overnight. This cultural event is celebrated with calaveras, which are creative colored skulls, and different types of decorations such as color paper, face painting, and costumes.
Food and Culture

Culture has many meanings for a lot of people. It has brought so many cultures together, whether it has to do with food, dance routines or anything else that can bring people together. It is fascinating to learn about all kinds of cultures that are out there. In El Salvador, the culture is like any other culture in Latin America and in Central America. Churches, museums and also theater is big in throughout El Salvador.
In El Salvador, pupusas is something that is eaten the most. They are served all over and it is a great meal. There are restaurants and also families who have their own business who make them to sell them to make a living. Luckily, there is a restaurant here in Lawndale called El Cerro Verde. They sell pupusas and other Salvadoran foods.

My family and I always go on little trips. Kinda like " field trips " and I find them special in a way; it's like our little family tradition honestly. We really don't plan them at times we just get in the car and just drive anywhere. We just pack our blanket, pillows and gadgets and we're out the house. I love doing this because it's kinda like family time just us four. Spending time with each other. We have our moments. It's nice going on trips and going to different places, We've never been before. Or we see an event going on at different city's or somewhere and being able to go and experience it is pretty cool.
In this picture we went to riverside to go see a mission with a bunch of Christmas lights. It was beautiful, it was also a festival and cool to experience. My nina just told us to get ready we're going somewhere. We either stay home or go. It's always worth going places seeing new things than just being home doing the same thing. So get out of your house, get off the couch and go explore places, like busy missions with family or friends. Experience new things; its always worth it in the end.

Without Music, Life Would Be a Mistake

Do you listen to music daily? Is it an essential for you to listen to music everyday? For many students at Leuzinger, they need to listen to music to get through their day. Music helps them mentally, emotionally, and physically. They listen to music to lift up their mood when they’re sad or to hype them up.
Students listen to music to help them concentrate on the task they are doing. For me personally, music helps get my work done quicker and it makes it more entertaining. Music could help you get through pretty much anything. I believe if music didn’t exist, the world would be a totally different place. Without music, life would be a mistake.
The crushing but loving world that makes or break who you are but a friend who helps you through it
Having someone to care for or care for you is one of the most best enhancements one can endeavor with. Some will hate or embrace that actually, engaging in a friendship or a relationship with someone else is both really healthy and necessary to benefit you as a person. Here at leuzinger we all carry the same mindset by providing one another a shoulder to lean on. When entering High School until the end you need someone to confess or tell your secrets too or someone just to support you in all your thinkings and to tell you that you are wrong when you need it the most. Having even the least relationship connection with someone still counts especially if you acknowledge that having them around is a bit better than being alone. We were not created to be alone and when staying alone can be really depressing and boring. So with that being said I interviewed a couple of people I have seen always with each other most of the day. When interviewing T and asked what is something you take from this relationship you have with your close friend. She replied “Knowing jazmine will be here at my lowest comforts me.” Throughout this interview they both explained that having a friend through the hardest times in high school is essential . This goes in harmony to what another couple best friend said about how easy it was to find themselves by having each other. Niko, who is best friends with Jaliyah states “ My best buddy.. I know i’ll always have her.” Last but not least Alicia Diaz best friends with Jessica comments on the great accomplishments both her and her best friend overcame together. Her answer to my question was “ Me and my bestfriend are a team, we work together and thats my back bone” All of these lovely examples of close or best friends both give evidence on how having a close friend especially in High School is beneficial.

On the campus of Leuzinger High School, there are a few walls that embody the meaning of the world into one big beautiful wall collage. Students refer to the wall collages as “wallages”. The purpose of a pair of the wallages, which is located on the second floor of the main building, is to demonstrate the meaning of history itself. They describe history through pictures rather than through text. Students, staff and school visitors are mesmerized by the knowledge that is provided to them through these historical images. Another wallage, which is located just below the history wallage, is one that gives identity to the class and also to its teacher. This wallage is the art wallage. It is made up of intricate patterns that Leuzinger’s art teacher, Mr. Jennings, had his students create as a final project. Mr.Jennings artfully placed each and every project together therefore, there is no question that this wallage in its own way is “art.”
MEChA : Not Just About Latino Heritage

MEChA has been a popular club at Leuzinger for many years. MEChA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan which translates to Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan. The focus of the club is to celebrate Chicano culture. However, this does not exclude other ethnicities from joining the club. MEChA welcomes anyone who would like to learn about and be apart of the Chicano culture. The importance of being involved in your community and helping those who are less fortunate is also emphasized by the club. For a couple of years now MEChA, has been participating in the Feed the Homeless events. Club members travel to Downtown Los Angeles with bags of food and clothing. Everyone brings home cooked meals, fruit, candy, chocolates, soda, juice, and even cupcakes to distribute. Typically more than 40 people are fed. In fact, most of the time participants run out of food to give. Mr. Romo, club advisor and a big part of MEChA, said that they sometimes leave disappointed because they couldn’t help everyone. While helping out the community, MEChA members are provided with the beautiful experience of helping those in need. Although last year not a lot of students participated, this has not affected the events. Mr. Romo is extremely dedicated to the Feeding the Homeless Event, that he will go even if it is only with four other people. This year they are trying to get more volunteers, food, and clothes that they are including many other clubs on the Leuzinger campus, such as B.E.L.L.A and Exposed Opportunities, The club has also made arrangements to rent vans since transportation is always an issue. MEChA’s goal this year is to get enough participation that will result in having food left over rather than not |
Egyptian Immigration
by: Alejandro Pena

There has always been debates on who is allowed to migrate to this country and if they help the country or hurt it. A notable amount of Egyptians have recently started to move to the United States. Egypt is currently having governmental problems therefore it is currently undergoing revolution and reform. Some students at Leuzinger High School have had first hand experience on what is happening in Egypt. Jolia Awadallah, a junior, comments “ There is a lot of fighting, revolutions, and a lot of Christian people are being killed, but I think now it is calming down. I moved to the United States for a better opportunity.” The majority of the people who migrate to the United States move here for a better opportunity. People migrate because where they are from certain rights and liberties are restricted or the country is undergoing civil war. Students at this school assume that because Egyptians speak Arabic they are from Iraq or Pakistan. When interviewing Maria Ghobrial, a junior, about Middle Easterners embracing their culture at school she stated, “Not all of them”. The conserved attitude Middle Easterners have taken towards their culture has increased since the incident of 9/11, now that others have gained a fear or hatred towards them. Not many people are educated as to what is going on in the world. Therefore, they don’t understand why people from Egypt are immigrating into to the United States. Engy Iboahim, another student, would simply like to create her life here just like many other immigrants have. Of course they would love to return to visit Egypt as soon as they are given the opportunity to.
Risky Shoes
by Estevan Guerrero Jr.
November 1, 2013
Have you ever wondered about the risk people take to get their shoes? In today’s world, people take many risks to obtain the latest shoes. There are individuals who resort to the extremities of camping out for shoes. Those, whom camp out for their shoes must worry about others who are doing the same. These other people are threats now that they most likely are there to obtain the same shoe and maybe even in the same size. Additional threats in camping out are impatient customers that cause scenes and burglars lurking around. The brands of shoes that commonly generate camp outs among people are Jordans and Nikes. When interviewing James Forman, a senior at Leuzinger High School, he stated “I camped out one time and I saw people bring tents to sleep in and wait for the stores to open”. Trey, another student at Leuzinger High School, stated “One time I camped out for some Kobes and this guy got beat up for his shoes and then a rumble broke out so I left”. It has been reported that some stores, which have hosted the vending of these popular shoes, have been vandalized and destroyed by tempered customers. People have died while camping out due to stabbings and shootings. Last year, somebody in Chicago was stabbed severely in the chest over a pair of the Jordan 11 Concords. What makes this shoe so special is that Michael Jordan wore this shoe model during his games. Therefore the value of the Jordan 11 Concords is significantly high. Nikes have been extremely popular for the past 10 years, but now that they are considered the best shoe models all around the world. It is because of this that a person in New York City was shot for his pair of Nikes. Another way to obtain the latest shoes is by ordering them online, rather than risking your safety by camping out. It is better to wait a bit longer for your shoes to arrive through mail, than taking the chance of not making it back home after a camp out. Having the most recent pair of shoes from the hottest brands is enticing; but remaining safe is beyond words.
